Excel Content for College Accounting Courses
The Excel University content can be used in a number of ways in college accounting or information systems courses.
If you would like to explore how to integrate this content into your course, we are happy to share a few ideas below. We would be excited to explore other ideas as well, and help integrate the materials in whatever capacity you require.
One way to integrate the content is to have the students work through the book on their own, and use it as a reference book. The students will be able to gain access to the Excel workbooks and solutions videos online as needed. Students can purchase a copy of the book either as a paperback through Amazon for about $25, or in a digital format for Kindle (Amazon) or Apple products (iTunes) for about $20.
Learning Management System (LMS)
The online Excel University courses are engaging educational experiences, filled with lecture videos, homework activities, forums, blog posts, polls, hands-on exercises, solutions videos, answer files, quizzes, and a final exam. We host the LMS, and can set up a private room for your students to coincide with your course schedule. Once it is set up, we will provide you with the discount registration codes needed for your students. When they register online, they’ll receive the education discount, which brings the registration fee down to about $99.
Professor Ruth at the University of Mount Union in Ohio had her students enroll into the LMS, and here are her comments:
Your program was very, very helpful and relevant for my students. Unfortunately we don’t use Excel in our accounting classes as much as we should, so providing them with this learning opportunity was perfect.
Also, I had a student who, after graduating from Mount last May, was heading to Case Western Reserve University to pursue a Master in Accountancy. He was told that he needed to take an undergraduate MIS class over the summer because we don’t offer such a class in our curriculum. He told them about completing Excel University in my class, they looked into it, and waived his MIS requirement. Needless to say, he was thrilled. And I was too!
I hope others will consider implementing your program into a class. I think they too will be pleased.
Luis enrolled in Excel University as part of his accounting course at Cal State Fullerton, and here is what he said:
“Hey Jeff! I can’t express how much gratitude I have for you, man! This new knowledge will stick with me forever. I feel more confident and competent in Excel more than ever. Thank you, Jeff!”
Professor Peck at Fresno Pacific University had her students enroll into the LMS, and here is what she said:
The content was very relevant and the feedback was very positive. All of my accounting majors, in particular, have expressed how much their improved Excel skills have set them apart competing with other interns in the field.
